McCain Jackets: Scented Barkers

About this project

With a lot of people preferring to give the frozen aisle the cold shoulder on shopping trips, Blue Chip were tasked with creating in-category engagement to help support the launch of McCain’s Ready Baked Jacket Potatoes.

Genuine innovation was needed to get this audience to engage at the end of a long shop, so we developed a first for the category – scented shelf barkers that released the aroma of freshly baked potatoes at the fixture.

Developing the technology for the frozen environment was not without its challenges, but it was well worth the effort. Over 600 ASDA and Tesco stores bought in to the barkers and for the first time ever shoppers were able to get a real sense of the product before opening the freezer doors.
