Meet the New Recruit: James Mellor

Blue Chip Manchester continues to attract top London talent with the arrival of James Mellor, formerly of Coca Cola. We asked him a few questions about himself.

Where were you before?

Part of the Coca Cola – GB Event Team.

Tell us what campaigns you worked on.

Music festival sponsorship & activation – Relentless Energy Drink

Powerade – Olympics London 2012, Euro 2012, Great Run sponsorship activation.

Share a Coke – 2014

That’s an impressive history. What attracted you to us (other than we were up north and we’d have you!)?

That’s all I had down for this one! Seriously though, Blue Chip work with some great clients and the opportunity to work with and drive the O2 account was an offer I couldn’t turn down. There’s a real family feel to the place as well, which is rare to find in agencies these days…

How are you finding it so far?

The transition into the world of Telco has been interesting, getting to grips with a whole new language of abbreviations and technical terms is a world away from delivering music stage activations in fields at festival sites! Luckily my time at Coca Cola has stood me in good stead when it comes to consumer engagement and campaign development.

And what does the future have in store?

The team will be driving engagement, acquisition and tenure across O2’s wider business including PAYG, PAYM and MBB with a real focus across all demographics. It’ll involve a great deal of ideation, creativity along with a clear demonstration as to how we produce results and instigate action amongst consumers…whilst always building and hero-ing the O2 brand itself.

Tell us 4 things about yourself we don’t know.

Now you’re really asking me to push the boat out…erm…take your pick…

  1. The move back north from London has been an interesting one…more rain and more disposable income!
  2. I’m getting married in 6 weeks – oh s*#@!
  3. I used to be a (criminal) legal exec – big career swing…
  4. We’ve just got a kitten called Hugo who eats EVERYTHING…literally.

Cheers James. And good luck settling in!
